Acceptable Use Policy

This is a draft

Mary Astronomy Foundation is being established. This document is under review and is not yet in force. It is published now so you can see exactly what we intend.

Acceptable Use Policy

Status: draft, under review. Not yet in force.

Version 2026-09-draft.

Telescope time is shared and finite. This policy exists so that everyone gets a

fair share of it and nobody gets hurt.

Use the platform for observing

Reserve telescope time to observe. Do not reserve time you do not intend to use,

and cancel if your plans change so someone else can have the slot.

Do not try to get more than your share

Do not create additional accounts to hold more reservations than your allowance.

If you need more time, ask us — we would rather raise your allowance than have

you work around the limit.

Group accounts are for real groups. Do not apply for one to obtain extra

individual time.

Never point a telescope at the Sun

We do not offer solar observing at any site, regardless of what filters a

telescope carries. Do not attempt to request it, and do not attempt to reach it

through coordinates or a manual plan. Pointing an unfiltered telescope at the

Sun destroys the instrument and can blind anyone nearby.

Respect the equipment and the people who look after it

Site staff prepare and close each telescope by hand. Do not attempt to reach

device controls outside the platform, to interfere with a site's network, or to

work around a safety hold.

Be decent

Content you publish to the gallery, and messages you send through support, must

not be abusive, harassing, hateful, sexual, or unlawful. This is a platform used

by children.

Do not misrepresent images

Do not present an image as something it is not. In particular, do not claim that

an image was captured by a Mary Astronomy telescope when it was not, and do not

present generated or heavily reconstructed content as measured data.

Security

Do not attempt to access another person's account, files or observations. If you

find a security problem, tell us at info@maryastronomy.com and give us a

reasonable chance to fix it before telling anyone else. We will not pursue

someone who reports a problem in good faith.

What happens if you break this policy

Depending on what happened, we may warn you, suspend your account temporarily,

or close it permanently. Serious cases — anything endangering equipment or

people — may be acted on immediately. You can respond through support in every

case.
